Anyone know if the South Garden restaurant at Haile Plantation still serves dim sum? I looked on their site and they said Sept 5-6. I don't know if it meant only on those days or if it would be returning after those days. D:ax

The Leonid meteor Shower is supposed to be especially cool this year, peaking on Monday but even last night there was some action.
Anyone have suggestions as to where to go to watch it? Preferably something that includes: Accessible at night (so no private property/public parks with limited hours, etc) A place to park a car Open skies Minimal lights around (street lamps, buildings and so forth)
Suggestions?

"'They say: "You're ill, so the things you see are just a non-existent hallucination." But that's woolly thinking, you know. I agree that ghosts are only seen by people who are ill; but I mean, that only proves that ghosts can only be perceived by people who are ill - not that they don't exist.'" Fyodor Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment
Sing to me of the opposite of fear.
I wish I could tell it otherwise, but I see that we need to keep secrets so long as one ounce of jealousy remains in the universe.
So let me sing it in the alleys and the thresholds, let it emerge like a white needle out of the darkness, a shining thread leading from a sidewalk to lips parting lips.
Sing to me the bravery of the cowards. Sing to me the eating of fire on a continent of snow.
What is with me? Again, you ask so politely.
I can't tell anyone else what the universe is for, but where I do not know, I cannot rest. I dream of a well-lit room where some are having sex and some heated conversation. I dream of knowing, knowing, knowing, a thirst for knowledge that drinks and is not abated, a fire that burns but does not consume.
I dream the prude agonized by lust, and of lust ascendant.
I dream the world a god attempting to know itself, and our grasps after one another as attempts to remember. I dream coitus as insight.
But more, more, and wordy as all fuck, I dream the good conversation as foreplay. Or maybe that's not it, and sex isn't it either, but the knowing. Every capital-a Atheist hates god, and every devout agnostic hates ignorance.
To wit, let us rejoyce: co it us. Together this we.
Once, I might, begrudgingly and unpublicly, have accepted the slur "sexually frustrated" but now, I bud and burst. Let's do this:
Sex is separation, secare, to divide. Frustration, frustra, in vain.
Oh yes: split apart, and grasping and failing. Yes, I think that's just about right. If God is the universe, and the universe is born and becomes sentient and becomes God, and, for boredom's sake, destroys itself to become an unwhole universe again, whose ally am I?
This god wants time, this god wants space. No, I am the devil, I work for Him, I work for all things all at once, the reunion. "Re" means both "backward" and "again." I one. I am a oner, and never a loner.
Let all the word transpyre in a monument.
I do not need this body, I do not commit to this body, and I renounce this body.
And yet I am part of the foreplay, the setter of scenes. And yet all is, and perhaps one is not the onliest number after all, perhaps our one is a false vacuum, and a greater unity abides through all of time--petty, petty time.
Oh, foest of foes, time. Oh, I destroy you by looking, I destroy you by loving, I destroy you until I am spent of all I am, face flat down in the chronological desert.
No, I was born to die. No, I was born to be scraped bare for life, I was born a klaxon forest fire. I was born to scream light until fire bursts from my lips. No, I cannot speak for another, one other, but I am as I was.
I am indeed who I am.

All-knowing people of Gville,
I think this might be the first and last time I ever get to ask this question:
If for one night money wasn't a consideration - where in Gainesville would you eat? (I am a vegetarian but my husband is not - a place that is strictly vegetarian is fine but if it serves meat the place should also have something good for a veggie to eat)
Thanks!

I know this gets asked alot around here, given the still-bad state of the economy, but does anyone know of any good job opportunities for students?
I've got experience as a cashier, with data entry, in a call center (although I'd rather not...), customer service in general, and I'm skillful with a computer. Politics major here. I'd rather something semi-permanent rather than just Christmas season but I'll take anything.
Ideally like 10-14 hours a week, although more during the winter/spring breaks. Thanks guys!

Nope, no fricken way. There is no way that I would live somewhere that had that bad energy. ESPECIALLY if someone had already said that it was haunted. Have we learned nothing from horror movies?!

First off, thanks to everyone that replied to my post about hair cutters. Very helpful!
That said, I have another question: what are the best vegan meals in town? My husband and I are trying out a vegan or close to vegan diet for a while (damn China Study book!) and are looking for stuff to try -- especially since he's been very much a carnivore up till now.
We've already tried Satchel's, Karma Cream, and Book's Inc., though we're open to other recommendations there -- despite the fact that the stuff we tried at all three places was AWESOME! If you're curious, at Satchel's we had vegan cheese pizza with banana peppers, spinach, basil, garlic, and carrots; at Karma Cream we had triple chocolate, cookie dough, and green tea ice cream; and at Book's Inc. we had carrot cake and a chocolate cupcake. Yeah, I know, not the healthiest vegan diet yet but it's transitional right now. And I've also eaten some great vegan meals at SaBaBa, too, even when I wasn't really trying to eat vegan.
Knowing what restaurants have a good selection of vegan options would be great, but I'd also be interested in good vegan meals at restaurants that aren't really known for being vegan-friendly (even if they include off the menu options).
And if you want to share any recipes to try at home, that'd be much appreciated, too!

Tell me more about the illness that makes you die until you live. Tell me more about the tongues nailed to the bottoms of mouths.
Tell me of the poison of anger that seeps through the semen and down through the womb. Tell me why every son and sinner will sin again.
And tell me, tell me, tell me, still, who stands there and holds your fists back, tell me who curls them back into your lungs and makes fingers into screams.
Tell me who is saving this world, transmuting anger into love.
Tell me it is wrong when I can only feel their encouragement fall on my fingers when I am drinking.
Tell me how the devil is tamed, tell me how we drink pureblack petroleum. and still dream.
Tell me how we go forward, because we we cannot go back, cannot, must not cannot go back.
Tell me your darkest, your black shakingdark secret break it out and kill the king and tell somebody that you want. want want want.
Want, want, what you do not tell anyone, what do you wear in your eyes, around your smile, what do you die on behalf of. let, let, let out.
I drink until I am ready to
vomit, I care and care, I want to die like you want to die die on behalf of alive, let let let, let let let, let all the bristlebright world hack its way out of the prison of the belly.
Tell me about what to do with the burning shoulders of all the waking world.
Tell me whom I cry to, is it my father far, far, far, is it my mother gone, gone, gone, does someone owe us allegiance and and and and, are we the creditors of the shaper of all dreams, and what bank contains all we are owed, oh, oh, oh.
Is it the darkness, full of ink and thinks and thinks, a sea of if if if only if, and it seeks only the readiness of a ceding soul, ready with the paper, the thinbleached reeds?
If is is it, if it is if, if if, then open, hopen, speak, speak, speak,
speak all the hell you have swallowed, let the blackness in which all possible consists come, come, come across the page, spill out and swell, and when you are vacant, take, take, take until you again, again, spill blackblank brightblot blood, blood, blood you are blood, friend, blood, come blood, bleed white, breed black, spill spill, spill spill.
We have not unpacked the paint with which we shall portray the all, the perspective is packed up in the job, the job in the dad, the dad in the sob, the sob in the mom.
All allbroken souls come one, come all, come on, please, prays, all bepraised, come until you are too drunk to sleep, come until you break again until you come again.

Thought some of you might be interested. From my Gainesville Food Blog:
The Red Table Bar and Grill, located inside the Holiday Inn on University and 34th, has become Beef O'Brady's. The Red Table was formerly the Dill Deli and, of course, was the site of the last Denny's in Gainesville, circa 2005. Signage on the outside has been changed to represent the takeover, and the Holiday Inn's website represents the change as well.

Okay Gainesvillians, make some high school football players dream come true!
I teach at Keystone Heights High School, which is 35 minutes northeast of here, in the southern-most part of Clay County. It's a rural 7-12 school that doesn't get much attention. It's also the only title-I high school in Clay County, which means most of our students are low-income and on free/reduced lunch. Sometimes sports is the only thing that keeps these kids in school and keeps their grades up (no 2.0=no play, no excuses).
This week is our homecoming, and we have a chance to have Channel 4 come out and cover our game Friday night as their game of the week! This means SO much to our varsity football players, since many of them have college dreams, and being in Keystone, no one notices our football program much, even though we do have a few spectacular players; our team is so small, most guys play both sides of the ball!
Please vote at the following Web site and help us stay ahead of Fleming Island High School, which is in a very affluent area of Orange Park and gets a LOT of attention (as well as funding from the county...)
Click on Game of the Week on the right hand side, and choose Interlachen at Keystone Heights. You can vote as many times as you want, up til 11pm tomorrow.
Oh, and pass the word on!
Thanks!

Anybody know of a good bakery? Needn't be an Italian one or anything, just a good, old fashioned bakery. Rainbow cookies, croissants, cakes, breads, etc.
I'm not taking Alberton's or Publix, though.

hey there! i'm looking for a dog friendly place to take my aussie on a little nature adventure. we're looking for something free (ie. state parks and the like) and something that follows or comes upon some sort of water. we aren't looking for swimming, just really enjoy the company of water on our walks :)
we've been to the alfred a ring park and i know that sometimes follows a little stream. is that the best we're going to get as far as water is concerned here in gainesville? i don't mind a small bit of extra travel for a really good nature trail but something local would be best.
any ideas? thanks!!

It is done. My frozen heart is split again and again, and lord, the trick is done.
Each piece refused and refused to melt and feel, and oh, oh, I love as a gas loves.
Sublime am I, vaporized and amorous, potential, and I corrode, corrode.
I am the poison oxygen, I age each shine with a glance, and I land, patina, on every soul. --
Oh, split me, myth, oh grab me and break me, skyscraper. I come to you, world, and I shall vomit on your doorsteps, I shall sneeze my heavy heart like Old Faithful when I get you alone at the bar.
Oh, busy yourself, I come not to bring a sword, but truth until it hurts, but the rest of the planet heavier than it ever was, heavier than every shame, oh, eventuality, I bring.
Oh the weight of light, I bring, the pain of an impotent God, I bring. Oh, I am not fit to touch the keyboards of they who shall come after me.
If you fear, flee into death.
We will hunt you even there. --
Special thanks to:

Hello, all, a few of us have gotten our proverbial crap together and are hosting a garage sale this Saturday only, from 8am to 1pm (short, due to schedule limitations). There will be everything from furniture to household items, including a lawnmower my mom is rumored to be selling, used but worthy first-timer professional massage table, that sort of thing. Come on out and say hello! Tell your friends. We've got good stuff, we just don't need it anymore. ( Plus we're friendly as heck. ) Please respond via the Craigslist ad if you have any questions. Thanks, and hope to see you Saturday :) http://gainesville.craigslist.org/gms/1453411924.html

My husband, my mom, and I are all overdo for a good hair cut. None of us need fancy styling, but we all want nice, flattering hair cuts.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Please provide specific names, if possible. Prices would be great, too, if you can give them. (Even a guestimate range is better than nothing.)

Hi there! My husband and I are expecting our first child in late January, and I will be returning to work after my maternity leave. Any recommendations on infant childcare in Gainesville? I am particularly interested in getting recommendations on in-home childcare providers, as they seem to be harder to find than the big facilities that everyone seems to know. Thanks...

If anyone is missing a white adult cat with a bob tail I've definitely seen it in my backyard. I tried to approach it since it was meowing, but when I opened my door it ran under a neighbor's porch. I put out some food in hopes that it could either come back and I could find its people or at least give it a good meal. If you think this is your cat, email me or come out to NW 69th Terrace and start calling. Your kitty wants to go home. If I see it again I'll get a picture and update this post.

Yeah, I skipped class. But I was good and emailed the professor asking for the notes and explaining the situation. Hopefully she sends them. I keep sneezing and having yuck run all down my face. Even with the tylenol cold, I feel incredibly congested. I hate being sick. Hate it hate it hate it.
I've heard that people who had the pig sick are much more susceptible to catching other things afterward. Damn compromised immune system. And I've been very good about taking my vitamins lately. When I saw people around me getting sick, I started loading up on echinacea but I guess it didn't work. :(
I just downed a giant glass of orange juice and now I think that I'm going to nap in my freezing cold house. <3
